Soil Texture Kits *Now Available*
ISCA Soil Texture Kit - contains 12 texture samples, a data sheet, a plotted texture triangle, a blank texture triangle, a flowchart, quiz sheets, and a sand gauge card. All samples were collected in Illinois and represent common soil textures and parent materials of the state. Each texture was sampled and processed by the Illinois Soil Classifiers Association. The samples were analyzed using the pipet method for mechanical analysis by the USDA Natural Resources Conservation Service National Soil Survey Laboratory in Lincoln, NE. There are multiples of a few texture classes, generally of different parent materials. There are also a couple missing texture classes. View the chart and the picture of the Textural Triangle below to see what samples are included in the kit. ISCA is working to obtain the remaining texture classes. In the meantime, please use the multiples to identify slight changes within classes. There are approximately 8 ounces (by volume) of each sample, but the amount is not precise and may be somewhat variable.
Some of the samples are near the boundary between different texture classes. For example, one of the samples is a silt loam that is very near to silty clay loam. Using this known sample you can then determine any unknown sample that is lighter in clay to be silt loam and any that is slightly heavier in clay to be silty clay loam.
The data sheet included with this kit includes the particle size analysis for each sample. The plotted texture triangle shows the ‘location’ of each sample on the texture triangle. A blank triangle, a flow chart, and quiz sheets are included in the kit to help determine texture. The included sand gauge shows the physical differences between silt and very fine, fine, medium, coarse, and very coarse sand. The cost for the kit is $250.00, which includes shipping and handling. The kit is only available for addresses in the United States. Use the Request Form and then the Button below to purchase with a credit card or Pay Pal. Please allow a minimum of 2 weeks for the Texture Kit to arrive.

Infiltrometers
For Sale: Double-ring infiltrometers with constant head Marriotte reservoirs (4 sets)
The outer rings are 24” x ~18” and the inner rings are 12” x ~18”. The reservoirs are 16” x 48” SCH 40 PVC and 10” x 48” SCH PVC, for the inner and outer rings, respectively. Used as Marriotte devices, they are set up at the approximate depth of the rings/infiltration surface. Volumetric flows are measured from exterior standpipes with 1/100 foot increments. An Excel spreadsheet will be included that converts reservoir measurements to in./hr. values. Applied head can be adjusted on the fly. Also shown is a float set up in which the devices simply act as reservoirs which eliminates the need to have the reservoirs in the pit. Included are (2) ~250 gallon water tanks, assorted hoses, and fittings, a custom hand truck, and oak driving timber. Once set up, one person can run 4 tests simultaneously. A 12v demand pump (12v battery included) provides pressure to refill the reservoirs as needed. The 16’ trailer is not included but I would entertain offers. I would strongly recommend a demostration on set up/operation to an interested buyer. Call Brad Cate at (302) 856-1853 or contact via email @ bradcate@easternshoresoil.com Price $2,400
